Graduate Opportunities
At Core Five we place great emphasis on our graduates, selecting high calibre individuals and guiding their progression through to becoming Chartered Quantity Surveyors and that proud moment of passing their Assessment of Professional Competence (APC) and becoming a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).
As a student member of the RICS, you will join Year 1 of our Core Foundations training scheme and commence your APC training to become a Chartered Quantity Surveyor.
There are many recently qualified Chartered Quantity Surveyors within the company who are now active APC Supervisors, passing on the benefit of their recent experience of the APC process to our current graduates in order to advance their APC progression. There really is a focus on career progression right from the start at Core Five, with a particular focus on success with the APC. This is demonstrated by the regular graduate forums, CPD sessions arranged in-house and regular reviews to ensure suitable experience is gained, all part of Core Foundations.

What our recruits say

Placement Opportunities
Applications for placements from university students on Quantity Surveying sandwich degrees are warmly welcomed at Core Five. These placements range from 10 week summer placements to 12 month placements taking you up to the start of your final year.
The experience you will gain from this period within the industry will be pivotal to your final year studies and we hope that you will want to return to join us as a graduate upon completion of your degree.
As a student member of the RICS, you will join Year 1 of our Core Foundations training scheme and be able to use this period as experience within your APC training to become a Chartered Quantity Surveyor.
Apprenticeships
We understand that not all future surveyors want to go straight to university full-time and would prefer to ‘earn and learn’ by completing a part-time university degree at the same time as working.
This approach usually takes 4-5 years, maybe less depending upon exemptions from previous courses. This affords the opportunity to be able to jump modules and equally study in Engineering Quantity Surveying instead of Building Quantity Surveying.
Core Five recognises that distance learning requires a significant of time commitment in addition to the working day and consequently allow 1 day’s study time per week, during term time, within the office.
It is important that any offer is conditional upon the applicants achieving sufficient UCAS points to allow application onto the degree course, coupled with sufficient grades at GCSE in Maths and English. Interviews are conducted during July with all applications being received in the preceding June.
Structured Training Program
Within Core Five, and in previous employments, Alan Wall has set up and operated a structured training programme for undergraduates for over 15 years. This system works alongside the degree course at UCEM. The programme mirrors the RICS’ APC route in addition to providing engineering support through in-house training modules designed to provide an insight to all areas of Mechanical, Electrical, Public Health and Lift Services. Additionally, post-contract modules are also provided.
The programme includes all areas of pre and post-cost control and provides the ‘budding’ surveyor with the hands-on experience necessary to work in the construction industry.
KPIs are set to ensure the undergraduate obtains the correct level of training benchmarked against a balance and pre-determined set of objectives, thus ensuring continued and complete development at all steps.
Core Five Culture
At Core Five, we recognise the importance of supporting and rewarding our employees. We actively encourage our team to work together to achieve successful outcomes and this approach continues into our social events where we encourage everyone to participate and enjoy the various sporting and social activities on offer throughout the year.
Equality, Diversity & Inclusion
We are proud of our continued success in recruiting from outside traditional sources, our people development programme and our work with our local community.
